Supporting driving anxiety
Routes, distances, and how async support differs from real-time reassurance.
Driving anxiety can attach to specific routes, traffic patterns, bridges, parking structures, or the sense of being far from a familiar base. Two people using the same words may mean very different things — ask for specifics before suggesting anything.
Useful support includes helping choose a route, sending a nearby destination, or being available for an asynchronous check-in after the drive. Real-time reassurance can become something the person feels dependent on, so agree on boundaries early.
The goal is not to make every drive feel comfortable. It is to help the person accumulate enough ordinary driving experiences that the activity becomes less restricted over time.
